Windows can run either edition, so the first answer still matters.
Identify your edition
Open the title screen. If it says Java Edition, choose Java. Phones and consoles normally use Bedrock; Windows can run either.

How to read the result
Recommended means one current project fits your answers. Compare means more than one real project could work, so you need to choose between them. Blocked means we could not find a documented setup for that device or version.
What the planner currently recommends
For Java, the default is Verity JE 5.7.4 on Forge 1.20.1. Java 1.21.1 players should compare the separate Revamped project with the old, deprecated JE NeoForge branch. Bedrock players can choose between PnTMC and Verity BE. We have not found a maintainer-supported console install.
Then install it
Create a clean profile or copy your world, install from the maintainer’s project page, and confirm the content loads before setting up AI or voice. The full install guide shows what a successful setup looks like.
